May 2026 was a month of dramatic weather swings across the Syracuse area. The average temperature was 55.8°F, about 2 degrees below normal, despite a record high of 91°F on May 18. Just six days earlier, temperatures had fallen to 33°F on the morning of May 12, illustrating the highly variable nature of spring weather in Central New York. Strong winds accompanied a storm system on May 13, producing a peak gust of 53 mph at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The month was also wetter than normal, with 4.08 inches of precipitation recorded, about 0.8 inches above average. Much of that rainfall fell during the weekend of May 23–24. Overall, May featured a mix of chilly mornings, summer-like heat, strong winds, and above-normal rainfall.
